The 2006 vintage is special because it marks the first year we made our Diamond Collection wines at our new home in Sonoma County.

The Coppola family purchased  the Sonoma winery in March, making it possible for us to crush right here on the premises  when  harvest  was  upon  us.  Having  our  very  own  winemaking  facility not  only  heightens  the  quality  of  our  wines,  it  fills  us  with  a  sense  of  pride  and accomplishment,  and  fulfills  our  longtime  goal  of  being  able  to  give  our  hallmark Diamond wines a home.

WINEMAKER’S NOTES

With Merlot the objective is to create a wine that has structure and complexity, but soft, smooth tannins.

We find that sourcing fruit from several different appellations works best to give us a Merlot which exudes multiple layers of flavors and a nice seductive texture. Grapes that come from Napa provide weight, sweet fruit flavors and  the  intense  aromatics  of  fresh  berries  in  our  wine.  Sonoma  fruit  contributes natural  acidity  to  create  more  balance  and  finesse.  Monterey  County  grapes provide concentration, which is the result of the well-drained sandy loam soils that characterize the region.

The 2006 growing season was long and cool, allowing the grapes to hang on the vine and mature longer. As a  result,  this Merlot delivers exceptional concentration and impressive length. To enrich the color, we blend in small amounts of Syrah and Petite Sirah. Then, the wine is aged in small French oak barrels, which lend lovely notes of sweet vanilla to this elegant, full-bodied Merlot.

Director's Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 Director's Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 -- HistorySeveral years ago when the Coppola family opened the doors to its wine and food destination in Sonoma County, California, the winemaking team was asked to create a series of wines that would reflect its own artistic interpretation of the region. The winemakers decided to produce two separate collections in order to showcase Sonoma County as one of the premier wine growing regions of the world. The first—Director’s Cut—offers limited production wines grown in the distinct sub-appellations of Sonoma, small areas that produce specific terroir traits we like. The second—Director’s—is comprised of four classic varietals grown in diverse vineyards across the entire expanse of Sonoma County.By blending fruit from a variety of geographic climates, we’re able to create wines that offer lush, ripe fruit flavors, a light, silky texture, and soft, supple tannins. Director's Cut Zinfandel 2007 Director's Cut Zinfandel 2007 --   Recommended by Peter Gianotti of New York NEWSDAY as a "very good wine deal". Dry Creek Valley There are two methodologies for growing Zinfandel in Dry Creek Valley. One consists of traditional farming practices, which includes the dry-farming of head-trained, spur-pruned vines, that are quite mature and severely thinned in the spring to produce low yields. The other employs more modern methods, including bilateral cordon, spur-pruned on-wire trellising, drop irrigation, and carefully manicured canopies. We source our Zinfandel grapes from vineyards on the benchlands and hillsides, which are farmed both ways. The combination of the area’s climate, our vineyard sites, and the two types of the farming methods used produces excellent fruit with intensely concentrated flavor. Vintage profile The 2007 vintage was a winemaker’s dream, and, quite possibly, the vintage of a lifetime. An unusually dry winter gave way to a warm , dry spring, which significantly reduced the crop size. . . .

Francis Coppola Diamond Alicante Bouschet 2007 Francis Coppola Diamond Alicante Bouschet 2007 -- Since its inception, the Francis Coppola Diamond Collection has been an expansive endeavor to create consistently high-quality wines that are pure expressions of each varietal. We seek out vineyard sites across California, which ensure superior grapes year-after-year, and we employ precise winemaking techniques to showcase the true character of our fruit. This enterprise has become a true labor of love. We invite you to share it with us. Winemaker’s Notes During the years of Prohibition, there were legal loopholes that allowed families to procure grapes and make limited quantities of table wine. Most of the fruit was varietals we consider rare today, but they offered wonderfully unique tasting experiences that many recall with great nostalgia. As a child, Francis Coppola’s grandfather made homemade wine using Alicante Bouschet grapes shipped in by train. Some years back, Mr. Coppola expressed a yearning for that unique varietal he grew up with, so we traveled about and tasted grapes . . .

Francis Coppola Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 Francis Coppola Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 -- The Label To commemorate the special nature of these wines, our bottles feature a distinct label design. Six different playful configurations of letters, which comprise the Coppola name, were created by, literally, tossing 3-dimensional pieces of type into the air and capturing them in flight. Each is a one-of-a-kind expression as prized as the wine in the bottle. Sam’s Vineyard Alexander Valley is comprised of varied terrain, from mountains that are exposed to full and abundant sunlight, to the valley floor in the south, which is cooler and highly influenced by maritime weather conditions. Alluvial soils run the length of the valley, and many vineyards are punctuated by sedimentary stones, which retain heat and transfer warmth to the vines even when the sun cannot. Additionally, the fruit from this diverse appellation typically demonstrates great concentration and flavor. Sam’s Vineyard is situated in the eastern hillsides of the appellation on an extremely steep mountain-vineyard composed . . .

Francis Coppola Diamond Petite Sirah 2007 Francis Coppola Diamond Petite Sirah 2007 -- The Francis Coppola Diamond Collection began in 1997 as an ambitious endeavor to make wines of character and complexity at an affordable price.   Sourced from California vineyards that not only have proven track records but are also managed according to our rigorous standards, Diamond Collection wines are classic California expressions that offer fruit-forward, multi-dimensional flavor and immediate drinkability.   Our illustrious lineup includes eleven single-varietal wines, plus our flagship red proprietary blend, Claret. These wines are a true labor of love—we invite you to share them with us. Winemaker’s Notes My grandfather, John Rolleri, was a Napa Valley grape grower back when the California wine industry was just gaining notoriety. Francis Coppola Diamond Pinot Grigio 2008 Francis Coppola Diamond Pinot Grigio 2008 -- Winemaker’s NotesPopularized in Northern Italy where seafood is abundant, Pinot Grigio is a varietal that requires a temperate climate and delicate handling. Our Pinot Grigio is grown in California’s cool climate appellations, where the grape performs its best. Picked in the early morning hours, fermented at cold temperatures and finished in stainless steel, Francis Coppola Diamond Collection Pinot Grigio is bright and crisp with an accent of minerals. The 2008 vintage was tricky across California—severe spring frost damaged the vineyards and a heat wave in late August prompted harvest to begin a few weeks early. On the upside of this, the frost that occurred early in the year diminished the overall fruit yield. Having less fruit on the vines meant that the grapes that remained had more flavor concentration because the vines didn’t need to nourish as much fruit. So, in spite of uncooperative weather, our Pinot Grigio delivers good body and balance and beautifully aromatic fruit flavors . . .

Francis Coppola Diamond Sauvignon Blanc 2008 Francis Coppola Diamond Sauvignon Blanc 2008 -- What is the style of our Diamond Sauvignon Blanc? Click here to see what winemaker Corey Beck has to say. Winemaker’s NotesWinemakers across the state experienced several challenges during the 2008 growing season. Spring frost damaged some vineyards, which significantly reduced the crop size. The upside of this was the remaining fruit was characterized by smaller berries with more concentrated flavors. The subsequent heat wave in late August produced rapid ripening of white grapes, which forced harvest to begin several weeks early so we wouldn’t lose the natural acidity we look for in Sauvignon Blanc. Despite the fact the weather kept us on our toes, the wine displays a lovely balance between sweet, juicy flavors and a bright, zesty palate. Serve chilled with simple crepes, a salad topped with goat cheese, or Chinese egg rolls.Food Pairings• Goat cheese and mixed greens• Simple Crepes• Chinese Egg Rolls Tasting Profile Appearance: Pale strawAromas Guava, pineapple, tangerineFlavors: . . .

The small amounts of Malbec and Petit Verdot we add help to strengthen color, weight, and structure. Our Claret is always elegant, but this year it’s a true show stopper; lush with a beautiful tapestry of smooth tannins, intense flavor, and seductive aromas. When paired with classic dishes such as beef stroganoff, leg of lamb or potato gratin, you can create a sublime dining experience.Tasting ProfileAppearance:  Deep crimsonAromas:  Blackberries, plums, and vanilla creamFlavors:  Wild berries, cherries, spice, and mochaAppellation: CaliforniaBlend: 82% Cabernet Sauvignon,7% Petit Verdot,4% Merlot, 4% Malbec, 3% Cabernet FrancAlcohol: 13.7%Barrel Regimen: 16 months in French oak   Click . . .

Bianco Pinot Grigio 2008 Bianco Pinot Grigio 2008 -- Francis Coppola grew up with wine on the family table because his grandfather and uncles madehomemade wine in the basement of their New York apartment. Using grapes that had beenshipped in by train car from California, the family was able to make wines in simple concrete vats.Francis Coppola Presents Bianco Pinot Grigio 2008 is a light, crisp white wine that’s refreshingand versatile. Invite friends over and serve Bianco with appetizers, pair it with light lunch fare, enjoy it at dinnertime with seafood or simply pour yourself a glass to sip on a warm afternoon.WINEMAKER’S NOTES• The grapes for this wine come from two regions: the Pinnacles Bench in Monterey andClarksburg just outside of Lodi. Pinnacles Bench fruit is influenced by cool coastal conditions, while our Clarksburg grapes develop more ripeness because of fertile soils and a warmerclimate. When blended together, we create a wine with full, ripe flavors and balanced acidity.• Named for the grey color that the grapes turn at full . . .

Francis Coppola Diamond Zinfandel 2007 Francis Coppola Diamond Zinfandel 2007 -- Why do we add Petite Syrah to our Diamond Zinfandel? Click here to have winemaker Corey Beck tell you why. Winemaker’s NotesOur Diamond Zinfandel is an expression of several unique appellations and one incredible vintage. From our Hog’s Canyon vineyard in Paso Robles comes fruit that was highly concentrated as a result of dry summer temperatures that exceeded 95ºF. At the other end of the appellation, we sourced from a vineyard comprised of gravely clay loam soils similar to those of Australia’s Barossa Valley. This fruit was blended with grapes from our Sonoma County vineyards, which typically provide very high-quality fruit that ripens evenly and exudes immense character and flavor. Finally, we added an extra layer of complexity by blending in a small amount of Petite Sirah. The resulting wine has a solid structure and mature tannins to give balance to Zinfandel’s inherently “jammy” nature.Tasting ProfileAppearance: Deep purple garnetAromas: Strawberry jam, briary blackberries, toasted . . .
